Akelius Foundation is a charity foundation.

Roger Akelius founded the Akelius Foundation in 2007.

Thanks to a donation from Roger Akelius,
the Akelius Foundation is the ultimate owner of real estate company Akelius Residential Property AB,
with 84 percent of the shares.

• refugees and other people suffering from government actions, or in need of medical care
• contribution for development of education

before the Akelius Foundation

During the seventies, Roger Akelius donated to small development projects in Israel.

During the eighties, Roger donated to people suffering the war in Lebanon. 

During the nineties, Roger donated to diabetic patients. 

Roger also founded the Akelius Stiftelse.  

Akelius Stiftelse served one hundred thousand meals to poor people in Sweden and Latvia, via the Salvation Army.

Akelius Stiftelse donated a bath-cleaning house, 
and a medical clinic, in Latvia. 

1999

Akelius Stiftelse donates all proceeds from selling CDs and a yearly cookbook to help poor people, 
via the Salvation Army.

The CD En salig samling sells 240,000 copies.
It was nominated to Grammisgalan,
the oldest Swedish music awards.

2007 Akelius Foundation

Roger Akelius founds the Akelius Foundation.

By a donation from Roger Akelius,
the Akelius Foundation becomes the ultimate owner of the real estate company Akelius Residential Property AB,
with 84 percent of the shares.

2009

The foundation donates SEK one hundred million to SOS Children’s Villages.

The donation helps to construct and maintain Tirupati in India, 
a 25-year commitment.

2010

The foundation donates SEK one hundred million to SOS Children’s Villages.

The donation helps to construct homes in Haiti,
a 25-year commitment.

2013

The foundation donates SEK one hundred million to SOS Children’s Villages.

The donation helps to run a SOS Children’s Village in Tacloban in the Philippines,
a 25-year commitment.

2014

The foundation donates SEK one hundred million to SOS Children’s Villages.

The donation helps to construct homes in Palestine,
a 25-year commitment.

2015

Akelius starts developing language courses for refugees.

2016

The foundation donates SEK one hundred thirty million to Doctors Without Borders.

Until today, it is the biggest fundraising in Sweden for Doctors Without Borders.

The foundation donates SEK 30 million to SOS Children’s Villages for helping refugees.

2017

The foundation donates USD 550,000 to UNICEF,
plus an additional SEK 69 million later in the same year.

The foundation donates SEK 68 million to SOS Children’s Villages for helping refugees.

2019

2021

The foundation donates SEK fifteen million to schools managed by the Pentecostal Church. 

The foundation donates SEK one hundred million to UNICEF for a language education project,
a three-year commitment.

2022

The foundation together with Hugo Research Foundation donates SEK 693 million to UNICEF and UNHCR for Ukrainian refugees.

today

The Akelius Foundation employs sixty people in Akelius Languages Online company, 
most of them located in Berlin.

The employees develop education material, 
for teaching languages and mathematics.

UNICEF and UNHCR are responsible for implementing the courses.

UNICEF has 3,200 teachers using the Akelius courses.

Donations to SOS Children’s Villages, UNHCR and UNICEF exceed EUR one hundred million.

In total, the value of Roger’s donation to charity is 
EUR eight billion.

Roger did not inherit any of this fortune.
